Training and educating employees in best practices for food handling, allergens, and workplace behavior is always a challenge for restaurant owners and managers.
The ServSafe programs, developed by the National Restaurant Association, are designed to offer America’s restaurants standard training programs that are recognized across the industry. ServSafe training and certification is recognized by more federal, state, and local jurisdictions than any other food safety certification. The program is current with federal and state regulatory requirements and ensures that the certification prepares employees to implement essential food safety practices and create a culture of food safety.
Designed for owners, operators, managers, and supervisors of foodservice facilities, including caterers, the ServSafe Manager class is available online or in a classroom setting. VRLTA offers classes throughout the state throughout the year; see the current schedule here. During the class, students will learn about foodborne illness, how to prevent it and how to train employees in food sanitation. Upon successful completion of the course and exam, participants become ServSafe Certified as a Food Safety Manager and earn a nationally accredited food safety certification from the National Restaurant Association. The ServSafe Food Safety Training program leads the way in providing current and comprehensive educational materials to the restaurant industry. More than 4 million foodservice professionals have been certified through the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification Exam, which is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Conference for Food Protection (CFP).

It drives home the critical lessons your employees and managers need to know before an emergency occurs. The course covers topics such as defining food allergies, recognizing symptoms, identifying allergens, the danger of cross-contact, and proper cleaning methods.
